The Esplanade in Redondo Beach
September 19, 2016 10:30 amOne of the three beach cities in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County, Redondo Beach is located just next to Hermosa Beach. The city is unusual in the sense that it is divided into two areas, the North and South areas, with the North area much farther inland from the beach, behind the areas of Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.
South Redondo Beach is actually the area fronting the Pacific Ocean, and includes the Esplanade, a street that branches off from Catalina Avenue and runs parallel to the beachfront until it merges with the roundabout intersection of Paseo De La Playa and Calle Miramar near Miramar Park. The street starts off with buildings on both sides, but eventually you’ll see homes on only one side when the street overlooks The Strand bike path along the beach, which is actually a segment of a longer pathway called the Marvin Braude Bike Trail that begins all the way north at Pacific Palisades and finally ends in Torrance to the south.
A Jewel of Redondo Beach
The Esplanade is a mostly residential area with a mix of single-family homes and multi-unit dwellings like apartments, townhouses and condominiums. These are all considered prime real estate because of their location, walkability to the beachfront area, and the gorgeous, unobstructed ocean views they offer, with prices that can go as high as $700,000 just for a single bedroom condo unit. In addition, the Esplanade is bisected by the numerous and simply named “Avenue” streets, where you can find many highly prized single-family luxury residences, most of which have retained their early Spanish design influences.
Residents along the Esplanade also have convenient access to shopping and dining, with the Redondo Beach Pier located within walking distance just off the northern part of the street, while towards the southern end lies Riviera Village, with over 300 retail, dining, and commercial establishments.
