Remodeling Your Kitchen
August 21, 2016 3:19 pmThere are many things to consider when remodeling your kitchen, but don’t let it intimidate you. Do you want to keep the footprint the same, or expand it? Do you want everything in the same place? What style are you looking for? The best way to start is by breaking the process down into several steps.
Design
So you want to remodel your kitchen, but you don’t know what you want it to look like. No problem, there are many sites that will help you find the end look you’re shooting for. You can search places like Houzz or Pinterest to see what you like. But don’t worry, you don’t need to spend a fortune to get that same feel. Kitchens are modular, so you don’t need to get everything exactly as you see it. The best place to start is the cabinets.
Pre-Fabricated Cabinets
For most buyers, pre-fab cabinets are going to be the best bet. They are manufactured on an assembly line and there are many styles/colors to choose from. You can find them at places like Home Depot or Lowes and usually take 4-6 weeks to arrive.
If you want something a little faster, but are willing to have fewer style choices then Ready to Assemble cabinets are a great option. They are also great quality with most of the features including soft close full extension drawers, solid wood doors, and strong plywood frames, and you can typically pick them up immediately. Envy Cabinets is a great supplier of amazing quality at even better prices.
Custom Cabinets
If you’re looking for something very specific or need to maximize every inch of your kitchen, then you’re looking at custom. You can choose the color and style so that you have something no one else has, and uses every bit of floor space you have in your kitchen. Be aware, these can be expensive and have long lead times.
Counter-tops
There are 2 main types of counter-tops installed in the homes in the South Bay, natural stone and quartz. Natural stones, such as granite or marble, are beautiful and durable, but do require maintenance. Quartz, such as Ceasarstone, looks very similar to granite, but is actually harder, less porous and requires very little maintenance. Pricing on the two options can vary, but they tend to be similarly priced.
Backsplash
Most homeowners are choosing to install glass or porcelain tiles on their backslashes these days, but some opt for stainless steel, paint, quartz/marble, or even windows.
Pulls/Handles
Handles are the final piece you’ll need to choose for your kitchen cabinets. The cabinets don’t come with holes drilled so you can choose any pulls/handles that give the right look to your kitchen. Amazon.com can be a great place to find great deals on handles, just be sure to count how many you need first.
Putting it all together
Now that you have the components to your new kitchen you’ll want to lay everything out next to each other to make sure that it has the look and feel that you’re looking for. If you’re unsure, just take a photo and email it to one of us here at Levine Homes. We will be happy to give you a second opinion.
