Living in Torrance – Communities in the South Bay
September 19, 2016 10:18 amThis city, which was incorporated back in 1921, is the epitome of a balanced community. Located between Redondo Beach and Malaga Cove, Torrance is just the right mix of everything, which is great as it truly lives up to its motto of being “a balanced city.
Torrance is considerably mellower and less touristy than its neighbors. Although its stretch of beaches (which is 1.5 miles long) is one of its main attractions, Torrance has a lot more to offer its residents and its visitors.
A Great Place To Call Home
Hailed as one of the safest cities within Los Angeles County, residents enjoy a secure atmosphere as they go about their business. Aside from the usual beach-related activities of oceanfront communities (surfing, swimming, etc.), Torrance has plenty of attractions inland. Locals and tourists frequent the Del Amo Fashion Center, considered to be one of the largest malls in the country by gross leasable area. Since its construction, the fashion complex now houses more upscale boutiques and restaurants.
A plethora of cultural activities are hosted annually by the city’s Cultural Arts Center. The Torrance Performing Arts Consortium, South Bay Ballet, and the Torrance Art Museum are some of the groups that regularly perform in these year-round events.
Torrance is home to a number of spectacular city parks, each with its own unique charm. Madrona Marsh Wildlife Preserve & Nature Center is a wetland in Torrance (a rare sight in California), which serves as home to numerous native plants and wildlife. Wilson Park hosts the Torrance Farmers Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Wilson Park is sprawled over 44 acres of land and features various picnic and sporting facilities such as a roller-hockey rink and a skatepark.
Served by Torrance Unified School District, Torrance is home to numerous academic institutions. Torrance enjoys close proximity to El Camino College as the community is located right in the El Camino Community College District.
Due to the number of Japanese residents in Torrance, the community has plenty of Japanese restaurants and cultural offerings. Japanese automotive giant Honda and several other Japanese companies have built their U.S headquarters in Torrance.
