Living in Rolling Hills – Communities in the South Bay
September 19, 2016 10:19 amFor many years, Rolling Hills has preserved its unique personality, distinct from those of the other communities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Located high on the hilltops, bordering Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, this gated community is home to some of the finest equestrian properties in California and the less than 2,000 residents here enjoy a quiet and peaceful life that is one with the nature.
The Best of Country Living
An equestrian air pervades this charming community, with its wide spaces, ranch-style architecture, and over 30 miles of riding trails. Avid equestrians will genuinely love this place if only for its extensive network of trails that goes on for miles while providing the best views of the rugged Palos Verdes coastline. Over the years, residents have cultivated something of a deep-seated reverence towards the community’s native wildlife and are committed to preserving the beauty of their rustic surroundings.
This bucolic community is served by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, which is consistently ranked as one of the best in California and in the country. One of the district’s most noteworthy schools is Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in nearby Rolling Hills Estates, which has consistently ranked among the best public or private high schools in the country. A California Distinguished School, PVPHS has been named one of America’s top 20 high schools by Newsweek.
Established in the 1930s, Rolling Hills was meant to be an equestrian community right from the start. In fact, in the early days, properties here ranged in size from five to ten acres and were originally advertised as dude ranches. Today, Rolling Hills remains purely residential and there are no commercial districts within the community. However, due to its close proximity to the other Palos Verdes Peninsula cities, residents can easily go from one place to another to avail services that are not available within the Rolling Hills area.
