Living in Redondo Beach – Communities in the South Bay
September 19, 2016 10:15 amPerfect waves, a wide stretch of beach, and just the right blend of laidback cool and casual elegance, Redondo Beach enjoys bright rays of sunshine and pier-side amusements. Farther away from downtown Los Angeles than Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, Redondo is not without its own charms. Here, you can feast on the freshest catch of the day and enjoy the peace and quiet while listening to waves crash against the shore.
Compared to the two other cities that make up the trio of Beach Cities in the South Bay, Redondo Beach is quainter, quieter, and perhaps even more romantic. Maybe it’s the more reserved air, as compared to Hermosa Beach, or maybe it’s simply because it’s just several degrees more laidback and relaxing. If you really want the type of beach lifestyle that is slow-paced and oh-so-relaxed, Redondo Beach will be just right for you.
Wholesome Living
Decidedly offbeat but not as funky as Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach is undeniably bohemian and proud of it. It welcomes people from all walks of life. The Strand, which stretches along the Pacific Ocean shoreline in LA County, is often frequented by sunbathers, joggers, and bikers alike. Anglers spend their time at the pier, waiting for the freshest would-be catch to take their bait. Locals and tourists gather at Redondo Beach King Harbor Marina and Pier, where more seaside entertainment awaits them.
Like its sisters, Redondo Beach is proud of its beach culture. Surfing and beach volleyball are not just mere pastimes but a way of living. Surfing enthusiasts rise early to catch the morning swells at Redondo Breakwall, and the beach is dotted by both amateur and professional volleyball players (either training for a tournament or just playing for good old fun). Beachfront Redondo is where you can find points of interest such as South Bay Galleria, Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, and Artesia Boulevard. Over at South Redondo are close-knit neighborhoods and the Civic Center.
Redondo Beach is home to Redondo Union high School and is served by the Redondo Beach Unified School District.
