Living in Palos Verdes
June 18, 2016 3:36 amIdyllic and romantic, with its rugged coastline, ocean views, and verdant hills, the Palos Verdes Peninsula is located in the southwest portion of Los Angeles County. An affluent clutch of communities populated with beautiful mansions, distinguished schools, and Mediterranean-inspired architecture, it might feel like an entirely different country. Actually, Palos Verdes Peninsula is much closer to the cacophony of downtown Los Angeles than you think.
Home to four distinct communities, the peninsula offers a variety of sights and activities to locals and guests. It’s up to you if you want to explore its lush parks and many winding trails, or ride the waves down at the beach. The Palos Verdes Peninsula makes it easy for locals and visitors to think that it is indeed the most beautiful place on earth to live.
So Many Things to Do, So Many Places to See
Many shopping and dining complexes are to be found within the four communities of the peninsula, such as the Malaga Cove Plaza and the Promenade on the Peninsula. However, with an abundance of natural beauty surrounding you, who has time to shop?
Avid equestrians are free to roam the extensive horse trails that wind around the peninsula. South Coast Botanic Garden, which was once an open pit diatomite mine and landfill, is a beautiful example of what land recycling can achieve. The garden features over 2,000 different specifies of fauna. Another jewel in the peninsula is the Wayfarers Chapel (or “The Glass Church”), designed by Lloyd Wright. But perhaps the most iconic and beloved structure in the peninsula is the Point Vicente Lighthouse, which served as a beacon and guide to passing ships back in its heyday. If you are craving for some “vitamin sea,” the Pacific Ocean and its surf breaks are waiting for you. Famed Lunada Bay on northwest Palos Verdes is almost at par with Hawaii’s legendary Sunset Beach. If you’re lucky, you might catch a pod of gray whales migrating in Point Vicente Park.
Palos Verdes Peninsula has several top-tier schools whose students regularly provide outstanding results in standards-based tests. The peninsula is served by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.
