Five Home Staging Techniques That Get Results
August 31, 2016 11:29 amStaging a home in anticipation of a sale can seem like a complex and mysterious undertaking. While staging can make a significantly positive impression on potential buyers, each strategy has to be planned and carried through with care in order to have the strongest impact. These are five staging techniques that we have seen get great results.
1. Get Rid of Clutter
Clutter is a distraction to prospective buyers, so get rid of it. Even though carefully chosen accent items can be helpful, these should enhance the space instead of standing out. Avoid items such as:
- Magazine piles
- Rows of shoes
- Children’s toys
- Personal grooming items
- Clothing
2. Arrange Furniture Nicely
While it might be tempting to push furniture out of the way to show the size of a room, this technique actually makes the subsequent photographs feel unbalanced, empty, and awkward. Group furniture pieces in nice arrangements to showcase the usefulness of the available space.
3. Turn On the Lights
Home staging photographs need to be filled with light. If a living room includes floor lamps as well as ceiling lights, turn them both on. This will illuminate the room more thoroughly and show the true nature of the space.
4. Make Use of Art
Colorful prints, paintings, and photographs can fill up blank spaces on the wall and add depth and warmth to any space. Consider varying the size of the art displayed. For instance, display a collection of small-framed prints and snapshots instead of one large painting.
5. Fresh Flowers Are Always Welcome
Fresh flowers, cuts of greenery, and even a few artful twigs will add vibrant interest to any space. Nature brings a refreshing quality to photographs; even a simple bouquet will work wonders.
