If you own an older home, you probably have tile counters. While these can look great, the grout can be a problem. Over time, it can get pretty grimy. However, it can be difficult to clean because many cleaners are abrasive and while they might possibly clean the grout, it can scratch the tile.
After doing a little research, we found a solution to try. To get started, here is what you will need:
Doing The Work
Prep the surface by applying the baking soda in the grout lines. A good way to do this is to take a 3×5 index card, fold it in half and then pour the baking soda in the middle. This will allow you to evenly apply the baking soda in the grout lines.
Once the surface has been prepped, apply the hydrogen peroxide. You can pour the peroxide in a glass and then, dip the brush in the solution and scrub. Alternate between back and forth and circular strokes while you are scrubbing. Once you have scrubbed all of the lines, let the solution sit for about 5-10 minutes. You can then use the sponge and water to remove the excess solution and clean up the surface.
Final Results
It took about 15 minutes to clean a one-sink, bathroom countertop. There were a couple of instances in which I had to re-scrub a couple of areas but overall it worked great. It didn’t scratch the tiles and it was easy to work with. It is also nice that it is eco-friendly.
