If you’re the type of person who looks around the house and gets exhausted just thinking about the mess that needs to be organized, you’re not alone. When preparing your home for sale, it is important to begin clearing the clutter of rooms. It takes a lot of energy to efficiently clear clutter, and some of us have so much junk crowding the floors, counters, and shelves that we don’t know where to begin. Here are three simple ideas you can try if you are sick of the clutter, but don’t know how to jumpstart the cleaning process.
Five Minutes Per Day
If time and patience are part of the issue, set aside five minutes per day. Choose a specific time dedicated to cleaning clutter. During those five minutes, pick an area of your home and clean. Find a place for everything. Throw away garbage items, put items to donate or sell in a designated box, and put everything else in its own special place. Don’t forget about investing in a file box and creating a simple filing system for papers. While you might not make a big dent right away, it will make a difference over time.
One Space at a Time
To go a little bigger, pick an entire space to declutter and organize. It can be a table, counter, shelf, or corner of a room. Don’t do the whole kitchen, the whole bookshelf, or a whole room. Each day, expand out from that space and organize a little more. You’ll be able to stage your home the way you want in no time.
Full Assault
If you’re game, set aside a whole day or weekend to organize a closet, a room, or an entire floor of your home. Get the trash bags and boxes ready, and task family members to participate. This is a little harder, but it will also help you see your house organization results faster.
